September Meeting Minutes

Sept. 3, 2013

Old Business

Cancer Quilts Update
Susan brought the finished quilts, complete with labels, to the meeting and sent them with Cheryl. (7-8 quilts) Cheryl and Linda V will arrange a time to get together and take a photo of each quilt and present them to FirstLight in Mora.
It was agreed that we would have Cheryl purchase label paper on her next trip to Duluth and she will be reimbursed through our group funds. Also, Melissa will work out our master label so that we can try to fit 4 labels to a sheet.
Quilt tops were distributed to Susan and Linda B for quilting and Sharon and Linda V are on standby for binding.

Seams Sisters – May 7, 2013 Meeting Notes

1. We had a discussion about cancer quilts. We have between 10-20 tops done. We are going to give some of the completed ones to the Moose Lake Oncology Department. Marge commented that Kanabec Hospital – First Light also has a new Oncology Department. It would be nice if we could provide them with some quilts too. Several offered to quilt or bind the completed ones. We are considering another Saturday Open Sewing in June (?) for the next cancer quilt sew-a-thon. We do need more labels for the cancer quilts.

2. We talked about a few other “old business” topics which included receiving an updated list of members.
...
3. We need 21 star blocks for our block exchange due in December. The pattern can be of your own choice. If you are having trouble finding a pattern, search the internet – [google “quilterscash.com”]. Also, I noticed that allpeoplequilt.com has a whole section on star block quilts.

4. The June 4th meeting will be at the Moose Lake Community Center which is behind the library. We will keep our meeting start time (6:15 PM) the same to avoid confusion. The hostesses for June are Carol H. and Bette D. Our July meeting will be at Bette’s – we’ll do a pot luck as we have in the past.

February Meeting Re-cap

Hello Everyone,
Just a quick recap of the February meeting.

1.) The last of the rows from the Round Robin Row Exchange were revealed and there where so many beautiful rows!  This was really a fun group project.

2.) Ideas were tossed around for our next group project.  It was tabled until next month, so if you have ideas, bring them to the March meeting.  One idea is to have a block swap where we all make the same block pattern and then exchange.  We would like to try a block size that is smaller than 12 1/2" bring block ideas with in March.

3.) 2 1/2" strips were exchanged, now we await the results of everyone's creative ideas!

4.) A committee was started to plan future retreats.  Committee members as this point are: Kathy P., Elsie C., Kathy R., and Barb S.  The first retreat that these ladies will plan will be the October Retreat at Woodland Beach Resort.  More info later!

5.) The Linden Hill Retreat is just around the corner in April.  Those that are signed up to go, remember that I need full payment by March 1st.

6.) April 13th will be a work day for our donation quilts during open sewing at the Barnum High School.

7.) We are going to look into the idea of vests or t-shirts with a logo for Seam Sisters available for order.  More info next month.

Row Exchange 2012
We will wrap up the row exchange in February. Group 'A' will reveal their quilts in February.  Also if any "B" group member's have been finished their quilts, please bring them.

2 1/2" Strip Swap
We did decide to go forward with an idea that Linda V presented.  All who would like to participate are to bring 2 1/2 yds of fabric, pre-cut into 2 1/2" strips.  We decided on red, white, & black.  It could be just one color or any mix of the three.  We then divide them equally with the participants.  If I  have misunderstood this, Linda will explain further next month.
